Crypto Market Braces for Volatility as Fed, US Senate, and BOJ Deliver Key Decisions
The cryptocurrency market is bracing for a potentially volatile 36-hour period as three major events unfold.
The US Federal Reserve, the US Senate, and the Bank of Japan are set to make key decisions that could drive market volatility. Markets expect a Fed rate hike, with CME FedWatch data showing odds above 88% for a 25-basis-point increase, up from 37% a month earlier.
The CLARITY Act is also a crucial catalyst for cryptocurrencies this week. The US Senate will hold a cloture vote on the bill, which seeks to establish clearer boundaries between the SEC and the CFTC in regulating digital assets. A failed vote could weigh heavily on tokens like XRP, while a passing vote may reinforce Bitcoin's dominance.
The Bank of Japan is also expected to raise its policy rate to 1.25%, a level not seen since 1995. This increase in Japanese rates could trigger a liquidity shock, particularly if it leads to an unwind of the yen carry trade. Investors have historically used cheap yen funding to buy higher-return assets, including cryptocurrencies.
