Crypto Market Crashes on Unexpected Job Gains and Interest Rate Fears

Share

The cryptocurrency market saw a significant drop in value after unexpected job gains in August raised concerns about the Federal Reserve's next interest-rate decision.

The strong jobs report, which showed that inflation is still above the Fed's 2% goal, led to increased uncertainty among investors and triggered a sharp decline in crypto prices. According to reports, more than $200 million of crypto market value was liquidated in just 15 minutes, with total market capitalization dropping by over $200 billion.

Federal Reserve Governor Christopher Waller stated that he would be inclined to leave the federal funds rate unchanged if incoming data for August confirm the improvement in inflation, but would be prepared to raise rates if the improvement is temporary. This ambiguity has led investors to be cautious and await further clarification from the Fed.
