Crypto Market Enters Extreme Greed Territory After 2-Year Drought
The cryptocurrency market has entered 'extreme greed' territory for the first time since late 2024, according to CoinMarketCap's Fear and Greed Index. The index rose from 41 to 81 within one week, a 40-point increase over seven days.
The surge in sentiment comes as Bitcoin gained about 24% in seven days, with prices briefly moving above $80,000 for the first time since May. CoinMarketCap's Fear and Greed Index uses five groups of data to build its reading: price momentum, volatility, derivatives activity, market composition, and social engagement information.
The index measures strong buying interest and high confidence, but also indicates that the market may be overheated and vulnerable to a correction. Analysts interviewed for a Bitcoin demand assessment said continued ETF and cash-market purchases would be needed after short covering faded.
