Crypto Market Gears Up for Busy Week with Inflation Report and Token Unlocks
The crypto market is shifting into high gear as we head into mid-August, with a busy calendar of developments to watch.
This week's major events include the U.S. July Consumer Price Index (CPI) report on August 12, which will give traders an indication of where inflation is heading and could influence expectations around the Federal Reserve's next moves on interest rates.
The focus will be on both headline and core inflation, with a softer reading potentially strengthening bets on rate cuts later this year. However, if inflation comes in hotter than expected, those rate-cut hopes could take a hit and put fresh pressure on the broader crypto market.
In addition to the CPI report, several major token unlocks are scheduled for this week. Aptos will unlock roughly 14.4 million tokens on August 12, representing around 1.8% of its market capitalization. Arbitrum will follow on August 15 with a regular monthly distribution of about 92.65 million ARB tokens.
The largest token unlock is scheduled for Story Protocol on August 16, valued at over $35 million. Token unlocks do not automatically mean prices will fall, but they can put pressure on a token when a large amount of new supply becomes available at once.
