Crypto Market Plunges to Extreme Fear on $530B Loss
The crypto market is showing extreme fear as the Fear & Greed Index plummets to 11, down from 38 just one week ago and a high of 76 over the past year. This marks one of the most pessimistic readings in the past 12 months.
Total market capitalization has shed roughly $530 billion in seven days, falling from $2.97 trillion to $2.44 trillion. Bitcoin's (BTC) dominance remained flat at around 59%, indicating that both Bitcoin and altcoins absorbed the selling pressure.
Experts often view extreme fear readings as contrarian indicators, suggesting that crowds are capitulating and longer-term return potential may be improving. However, such conditions can also coincide with stressed liquidity, elevated liquidations, and wider spreads, which can amplify further downside if another shock arrives.
