Crypto Market Rally Spreads to Smaller-Cap Meme Coins
The crypto market rally is spreading to smaller-cap meme coins, as several dog- and cat-themed assets more than doubled in value over the past week.
Cash Cat, a Robinhood-chain-based meme coin, surged 113% in the past seven days, with its weekly gain reaching $0.218 (approximately 300 won). Its market capitalization is around $215 million (approximately 300 billion won), while trading volume was unusually high at roughly $80 million (approximately 110 billion won) over the past 24 hours.
The rally is being interpreted as a classic risk-on spillover pattern, where gains in large-cap crypto assets are cascading into smaller-cap names. This has led to a rapid increase in investor sentiment, with the Crypto Fear & Greed Index climbing to roughly 75, its highest level since early October last year.
The market cap of several other cat-themed meme coins also showed significant gains: Thinking Cat rose 131%, Purr gained 93%, POPCAT climbed 54%, and Cat in a Dogs World (MEW) advanced 49%. Dog-themed meme coins continued their upward momentum as well, with Dog (Bitcoin) roughly doubling over the past week.
