Crypto Market Rebound Masks Fundamental Flaws, Warns CoinShares CEO
CoinShares CEO Jean-Marie Mognetti has sounded a warning to investors about the recent cryptocurrency market rebound. He cautioned that rising prices do not necessarily signify genuine value, and many digital assets are climbing due to returning risk appetite rather than improved fundamentals.
Mognetti noted that investor sentiment was at one of its lowest points in recent years just a month ago, but the current uptick in prices does not mean every cryptocurrency has a viable use case or economic model. He pointed out that over 100 crypto projects have shut down or disappeared from the market this year, primarily due to depleted funding, security vulnerabilities, and a failure to create sufficient utility, revenue, or economic value.
The CoinShares CEO's warning comes at a time when the market's recovery is drawing renewed attention from retail and institutional investors. He urged investors to shift their focus from asking whether the market is back to examining which assets can retain value when liquidity, political conditions, and investor sentiment no longer support price gains.
