Crypto Market Sees $4 Billion Short Squeeze as Bitcoin Surges Above $70,000
The cryptocurrency market has seen a significant surge in recent days, with Bitcoin rising above $70,000 and Ethereum outperforming major tokens. This rally is attributed to a combination of factors, including a wave of short liquidations, firmer policy momentum in Washington, and expanding stablecoin use.
According to Traders Union, over $4 billion in crypto short positions were liquidated during the rally, which propelled Bitcoin above its current price point. Ethereum, on the other hand, saw a near 19% 24-hour jump and an 18% weekly gain, compared to Bitcoin's 8.8% weekly rise.
Regulatory progress in Washington, where policymakers are advancing several cryptocurrency initiatives, has also contributed to positive sentiment. Additionally, stablecoins are gaining traction in mainstream payments as banks and technology companies move deeper into the segment.
