Crypto Market Sees Explosive Growth in Stock Derivatives Trading
In 2026, stock derivatives trading has seen explosive growth in the crypto market, transitioning from a fringe category to one of its core engines. According to RootData's monitoring data on mainstream sample exchanges, the cumulative stock derivatives trading volume reached nearly $1.75 trillion between January and August 2026.
The monthly trading volume grew significantly, jumping from tens of billions of dollars in January to over $600 billion in July and August. This surge was primarily driven by AI hardware market trends such as memory chips, with contracts on underlying assets like SanDisk (SNDK), SK Hynix (SKHYNIX), and Micron (MU) experiencing concentrated volume surges across the market.
Stock derivatives have become the strongest growth driver of crypto exchanges' TradFi business, dominating the sector's trading volume. By August 2026, stock derivatives accounted for over 80% of the entire TradFi sector's trading volume, surpassing precious metals like gold and silver.
