Crypto Market Sentiment Plunges from Extreme Fear to 'Extreme Greed' in Record Time

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index has reached its highest reading since late 2024, signaling that investors are now in 'extreme greed' territory. The index, which measures market sentiment on Coinmarketcap, jumped from 36 (fear) a month ago to 81 (extreme greed), marking the fastest sentiment swing of the year.

This rapid shift comes after a tumultuous period for the cryptocurrency market, with the gauge bottoming at just 5 on February 5, its lowest point this year. From that floor to the current reading is a remarkable turnaround, representing nearly all the caution erased from the first half of 2026.

The breakout is attributed to Bitcoin's recent price surge, which has left other assets behind. The largest cryptocurrency gained around 24% in a week while the broader market grew less, causing its share of the total crypto market to rise. This move was triggered by last Wednesday's announcement that the U.S. Treasury would double its long-bond buybacks, weakening the dollar and nudging investors toward Bitcoin as an inflation hedge.
