Crypto Market Slumps as SEC Delays Tokenization Plans
The crypto market took a hit on August 14 as Bitcoin (BTC) fell 0.86% to $62,874.95 and Ethereum (ETH) dropped 0.35% to $1,877.90. Solana (SOL) also declined by 1.47%, reaching $75.06.
The total crypto market cap decreased by 0.62% to $2.24 trillion due to a combination of regulatory delays, economic slowdown fears, and pressure on crypto stocks. The SEC's cancellation of its planned meeting on crypto regulation and delay in releasing plans for tokenized stock trading also contributed to the decline.
Shares in Coinbase Global and Robinhood Markets fell as well, likely due to their involvement in real-world asset tokenization activities. However, despite this week's losses, institutional support for Bitcoin remains strong, with Morgan Stanley increasing its holdings in the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF from 13.4 million shares to 16.5 million shares in Q2.
