Crypto Market Surges 17.6%, But Binance Warns of Growing Speculative Risk
The crypto market has started the month strong, with a 17.6% growth in total market cap to $2.70 trillion over the past seven days.
Binance's monthly report highlights that Bitcoin's price has climbed by 24.8%, marking one of the best weekly rallies since 2020.
The key takeaway is that investors are adding cash to crypto, rather than de-leveraging stablecoins, as equity holders increased their crypto allocations from 64% to 72% and decreased their allocations to stablecoins by 22%.
This suggests that investors are buying crypto in addition to their existing equity holdings, rather than rotating out of equities.
Binance's report also notes that the growing demand for 24/7 trading is driving weekend TradFi-perps volume, which jumped from $5 billion in January to $53 billion in August. This trend indicates that traders are increasingly taking advantage of crypto derivatives to speculate when traditional markets are closed.
