Crypto Market Surpasses $3 Trillion as Bitcoin Reclaims Key Level
The crypto market cap has crossed the $3 trillion threshold for the first time, fueled by a strong rally in major cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin (BTC) led the charge, surging above $91,000 on January 4 as it reclaimed a key psychological level after multi-week consolidation.
Ethereum (ETH) rose approximately 1% to near $3,150 while Solana (SOL) gained about 1.6% over the same period. The rally pushed total crypto market capitalization above $3 trillion and saw trading volume nearly double according to market data providers.
US Bitcoin spot ETFs recorded net inflows exceeding $300 million with Bitcoin and Ethereum contributing $184 million and $127 million respectively, further supporting the uptrend. Market participants expect clearer crypto regulations in the US and increased institutional participation during 2026, which is seen as a key driver of the rally.
The rally marks a reversal from late 2025 when crypto prices typically sold off during US trading hours. On-chain data suggests that whale accumulation and long-term holder buying have reduced sell pressure, improving fundamentals rather than short-term speculation as capital rotates into large-cap assets.
