Crypto Market Traders Hold Breath as Liquidity and Demand Weaken
The cryptocurrency market remains cautious as it trades within a narrow range due to declining liquidity on major exchanges, according to a recent report from blockchain analytics firm Glassnode.
Caution is particularly evident in the derivatives market, where buying activity and speculative demand have slowed noticeably. In the perpetual futures segment, total open interest has risen slightly, but funding rates for long positions have dropped sharply, indicating that traders are less willing to pay a premium to hold bullish positions.
Institutional demand, which had been a key driver of the 2023-2024 rally, has also shown signs of weakening. Glassnode notes that while Bitcoin continues to draw firm support from long-term holders, new institutional inflows have moderated. This is consistent with broader macroeconomic uncertainty, including shifting interest rate expectations and regulatory developments in key markets.
The report describes the current environment as a transitional phase, marked by caution across all major market segments. The decline in spot liquidity means that even modest buying or selling pressure can lead to disproportionate price moves, adding to the sense of fragility.
