Crypto Market Undergoes Fastest Consolidation in History Amid Regulatory Pressures
The crypto market is undergoing its fastest consolidation in history, driven by regulatory pressures. Since June 30, Binance withdrew its MiCA license application and was forced to suspend services for EU users. The exchange has also been removed from the Google Play Store. HTX is on a new sanctions list and will cease doing business with European counterparts starting August 23rd.
BitMart and BitMEX have announced they are winding down, closing nine and eleven years of operation respectively. Exchanges that treated compliance as optional or built their business on regulatory arbitrage are running out of road. The next growth cycle in crypto will be won by exchanges that have earned users' trust.
OKX Europe has seen a surge in deposits from non-MiCA-licensed exchanges, with a 5.5x increase since April and AUM increasing 300%. App downloads grew 158% in the final weeks of the transition period.
