Crypto Market Valuation Shifts Towards Revenue and Tokenomics
The crypto market's valuation is shifting from expectations and market noise to financial indicators like revenue, token buyback mechanics, and supply reduction, according to Bitwise Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan.
Hougan believes that many digital assets may remain undervalued compared to their fair value as the market has not yet fully priced in this shift.
Historically, the success of a blockchain project had little impact on its token's price. However, some platforms like Hyperliquid have started directing revenue towards buying back and burning tokens, similar to stock buyback programs at public companies.
This approach has been hindered by regulatory uncertainty, but the US Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) position softened after Ripple's court victory in 2023. Now, projects are embracing tokenomics and distributing part of their income through revenue distribution models.
Hyperliquid is a notable example, with its HYPE token price rising by almost 800% since its launch. The platform has directed over $1.3 billion towards buying back and burning tokens, reducing the supply and supporting the price.
