Crypto Market Wipes Out $500M in Long Positions in Sudden Sell-Off
The crypto market experienced a sharp sell-off, leading to widespread liquidations of long positions. Bitcoin dropped by 2.5%, Ethereum fell by 5%, Solana plummeted by 11.5%, and XRP declined by 37% within a short period. This sudden price move resulted in the loss of around $500 million in leveraged long positions, pushing total 24-hour liquidations towards $1.82 billion.
Most of these liquidations took place on major exchanges, including Binance, highlighting the risks associated with high leverage and thin market liquidity. Traders remain divided over the cause of this sudden downturn, with some attributing it to market manipulation while others see it as a broader deleveraging event.
