Crypto Markets Enter Greed Zone Amid Sharp Price Surge

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index has risen significantly in recent weeks, marking its highest level since before the major market crash in October 2025. The index, which measures investor sentiment in the cryptocurrency markets, was at 27 on August 12th and in the 'fear' zone, but rose to 74 on Tuesday, entering the 'greed' zone. It then fell back to 65 on Wednesday.

The sharp increase in the index has been accompanied by a surge in prices of major cryptocurrencies, with Bitcoin approaching $80,000 after trading below $68,000 last week. Some smaller-scale meme coins have seen even more significant gains, with Thinking Cat rising 131% and Cash Cat increasing by 113%.

Analysts view the shift towards small-cap tokens as a sign of a strong return in risk appetite, but also warn of the potential for a correction due to market overheating. The cryptocurrency markets are bracing themselves for the next major test, which is expected to be Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's first keynote address at the Jackson Hole meeting on Friday.
