Crypto Markets Plummet After Warsh's Hawkish Jackson Hole Remarks
The cryptocurrency market is experiencing a downturn, with major assets such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP taking a hit. The decline in prices comes after Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh spoke at the 2026 Jackson Hole Symposium, delivering a hawkish message that revived expectations of a September rate hike.
Warsh emphasized that the Fed's 2% price stability target is a firm and fixed target, and that it is the Fed's job to deliver stable prices 'no excuses.' He noted that the U.S. economy currently looks stronger than expected, with credit and loan markets showing few signs of policy restraint.
Warsh's remarks have put a September rate hike back on the table, with odds of the Fed holding rates steady falling from 71% to 50%, while the probability of a 25 basis point hike jumping from 30% to 49%. The market reaction has been swift, with Bitcoin plummeting to $77,901.87, down 3.1% in 24 hours.
Michaël van de Poppe, a trader, believes that the market may have flushed out downside liquidity and is now watching altcoins for potential relative strength as Bitcoin moves sideways.
