Crypto Markets Shift Back to Bitcoin and Traditional Finance Plays
Crypto markets have shifted their focus back to Bitcoin and traditional finance plays in the wake of August's rebound, putting AI-focused trading in the background. The price surge lifted mining stocks sharply, reversing a period when AI and high-performance computing narratives were outperforming.
Strive and Strategy, corporate treasuries, added large amounts of Bitcoin to their holdings in the final week of August, buying 1,800 BTC for approximately $143 million and 4,603 BTC at an average price of $80,318 respectively. This move reinforced the 'buy-the-ticker' corporate approach.
Mainstream finance is building stablecoin plans with a focus on institutional settlement. A consortium of 21 major financial institutions intends to establish a new company to develop and issue stablecoins, aiming to launch a US dollar-denominated product in 2027. This marks a shift from isolated pilots to a coordinated multi-institution structure.
