Crypto Markets Slide Amid Global Tensions and Rising Interest Rates
Global market tensions following U.S.-Iran escalations weighed heavily on cryptocurrencies Wednesday. Despite Bitcoin's relative resilience, trading near $77,500, higher-risk assets like Solana and Tron took a hit, falling more than 3%. Solana slid toward $100, while Tron retreated to around $0.32.
Ether dropped 2% to just above $2,414, XRP declined nearly 2% to approximately $1.35, and Dogecoin fell almost 2% to slightly above $0.08. HYPE lost more than 1% to around $83, but BNB proved relatively resilient, slipping less than 1% to $687.
The broader decline was largely driven by global macroeconomic conditions rather than industry-specific developments. Renewed conflict raised concerns over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, causing Brent crude to climb above $95 per barrel. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield reached 4.81%, its highest level in about three years.
Traders are pricing a 66% probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September, up from roughly 40% a week earlier. Attention now turns to Friday's U.S. August jobs report, which could reinforce expectations for a September Fed hike and put additional pressure on cryptocurrencies ahead of the September 15 CLARITY Act vote.
