Crypto Mom Peirce Optimistic as Clarity Act Nears Vote
SEC Commissioner Hester 'Crypto Mom' Peirce is optimistic about the Clarity Act's chances of passing. The long-awaited bill aims to provide clarity on regulatory authority over the US cryptocurrency market, which has been in a deadlock for much of this year.
The banking lobby had raised concerns that crypto companies were allowing clients to earn stablecoin yields, leading to delays in the bill's progress. However, an updated version introduced in July addressed these concerns by banning government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto.
Despite a group of Democrats expressing concerns that the bill needs work, Commissioner Peirce remains hopeful that it will pass, providing 'very clear lines about who has authority over the crypto spot market.' If passed, the Clarity Act would create a regulatory framework for the US cryptocurrency market, and the SEC would have to develop rules accordingly.
Peirce's comments reflect a shift in the SEC's approach to crypto regulation since President Donald Trump took office in 2025. The agency has taken a more friendly approach to legislation, including the establishment of a crypto task force to monitor the space.
