Crypto PAC Network Secures Key Primaries, But Negative Advertising Falls Flat
A pro-crypto PAC network, Fairshake-affiliated, reported success in key US congressional primaries on Tuesday. Four out of five candidates backed by ads from this group won or moved forward in Florida, Alaska, and Wyoming.
The Protect Progress and Defend American Jobs PAC network spent around $3.6 million on House and Senate campaigns in these three states, targeting candidates favorable to the sector. In one notable case, they supported Lois Frankel with over $150,000 in supportive media in Florida's 23rd congressional district.
A key takeaway from this election is that heavy negative advertising can produce unpredictable outcomes. Despite being targeted by Protect Progress with more than $2 million in ads, Democrat Oliver Gilbert won the primary in Florida's 24th congressional district, securing 34.4% of the vote. In his victory speech, Gilbert did not mention the crypto industry or the ads.
This episode highlights a tension in crypto political strategy: while PACs can spend heavily to shape narratives, negative campaigning can backfire and produce unpredictable outcomes. The sector's presence is becoming increasingly apparent in both directions, as seen in Florida's 24th district where Protect Progress-backed ads exceeded $2 million.
