Crypto Payment Cards Boom in August
Crypto payment cards have reached new heights in August, with a total volume of $1.076 billion, surpassing the $1 billion mark for the second consecutive month.
Data from paymentscan.xyz shows that transactions reached around 10.67 million, while addresses grew to over 283K from 261K the month prior, resulting in an average purchase size of $100.80.
RedotPay took the lion's share of the total volume with around $390.1 million processed in August or about 36% of the entire sector, but its average purchase sits around $61.50, indicating routine spending rather than occasional large purchases.
The growth is largely attributed to emerging markets, with StraitsX recording a 600% growth in gross transaction value across lower-GDP regions between early 2025 and 2026, while Binance saw a 53% increase in average users of its Brazil card and an 80% growth in average volume.
The cost per transaction has collapsed over the past year, making small tickets possible to settle onchain, with providers like Rain, Reap, and Stripe's Bridge stripping out much of the float and licensing overhead.
