Crypto Platforms Lose $3.63B to Exploits Despite Security Audits

Share

Crypto platforms have suffered massive losses to sophisticated exploits, despite many having undergone independent security audits. According to a new report by CoinGecko, between January 2025 and July 2026, these platforms experienced a staggering $3.63 billion in losses across 245 documented incidents.

The top 10 largest attacks accounted for more than 72.5% of the total value stolen during this period. Notably, many of these attacks targeted protocols that had undergone audits before being compromised. Out of 245 documented incidents since early 2025, 147 involved protocols that had been audited.

This is concerning because it suggests that even with security audits in place, vulnerabilities can still be exploited. In fact, a staggering 88.44% of the total capital drained over the last 19 months came from vetted entities that had undergone audits.
