Crypto Platforms Lose Over $3 Billion to Cyberattacks Despite Security Audits
Crypto platforms have suffered significant losses due to cyberattacks, despite many having undergone security audits.
A report by CoinGecko found that between January 2025 and July 2026, cryptocurrency platforms lost over $3.63 billion to various cyberattacks and stolen passkeys.
About 88% of the stolen funds and around 60% of the affected platforms had completed independent security audits, suggesting that these checks may not be enough to prevent attacks.
The report highlighted Bybit as the most affected platform, with a $1.4 billion heist attributed to North Korea in February 2025.
