Crypto Platforms Lose Over $3.6 Billion to Security Incidents Since 2025
Crypto platforms have lost over $3.63 billion to security incidents between January 2025 and July 2026, according to CoinGecko's report.
The 245 attacks documented during this period were largely driven by a small number of major breaches, with the 10 largest incidents accounting for more than 72.5% of the total amount stolen.
Much of these losses came from infrastructure and supply-chain vulnerabilities, with combined losses exceeding $1.8 billion across centralized exchanges (CEXes) and decentralized exchanges.
The report found that even platforms that had undergone audits were not immune to security failures, with 147 attacks involving protocols that had been audited before being compromised.
In fact, audited platforms accounted for over 88% of the total capital drained during this period, highlighting a limitation in conventional auditing methods that often do not cover external infrastructure or systemic features.
