Crypto Platforms Lost $3.63 Billion: Audits Not Enough Against Sophisticated Attacks
Crypto platforms lost over $3.63 billion between January 2025 and July 2026 due to cyberattacks and theft of access keys, according to CoinGecko data.
Despite undergoing independent audits, a significant portion of the stolen funds came from projects that had already been audited.
The most notable incidents include Bybit's February attack causing $1.4 billion in damages, North Korea is blamed for the breach; KelpDao with estimated damages at $292 million; and Drift Protocol with losses reaching $285 million.
The statistic highlights that traditional security measures are no longer enough to protect against attacks, which often occur in areas not covered by standard audits.
