Crypto Platforms Repeatedly Hacked Despite Security Audits

Share

Crypto platforms have lost billions to cyberattacks in recent years, with many affected despite having completed independent security audits.

A report by CoinGecko found that between January 2025 and July 2026, crypto platforms lost more than $3.63 billion due to various cyberattacks and stolen passkeys.

The majority of the stolen funds - around 88% - and about 60% of the affected platforms had undergone security audits, but most of the attacks targeted areas that these checks typically do not cover.

The report identified Bybit as the hardest hit platform, with a $1.4 billion heist attributed to North Korea in February 2025. KelpDao and Drift Protocol were also significantly affected, losing $292 million and $285 million respectively.
