Crypto Prices Soar on Forced Short-Covering and ETF Demand
Crypto prices surged across the board today, with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP posting solid gains. Bitcoin's price briefly hit $69,700, its highest in over two months, before settling near $68,600, up 2.5% over the past 24 hours.
The rapid move wasn't an accident - over $1 billion worth of short positions were liquidated in just 60 minutes, forcing traders to buy back Bitcoin at a loss and pushing the price even higher.
Ethereum and XRP are riding the same wave, up nearly 4% and 3.5% respectively, while Solana gained 6%. This synchronized move is no coincidence - when Bitcoin makes a sharp move like today's, most other major cryptocurrencies tend to follow along.
Investor demand through regulated funds has also picked back up, with Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs pulling in $261.8 million in inflows on Monday, more than making up for money that left the market on August 13 and 14.
