Crypto Regulation Bill Delayed Until September
The Senate adjourned for August recess without voting on the Clarity Act, a cryptocurrency regulation bill that had been expected to pass during this time. However, with only three weeks left before the midterm elections, industry insiders remain hopeful that the measure will still be approved.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced last Thursday that the Clarity Act would be put on hold until September, citing other legislative priorities and the need for more time to negotiate an ethics provision. The provision, which is a central point of contention between Senate Republicans and Democrats, aims to prevent elected officials from profiting off the industry.
Despite the delay, Senator Thom Tillis still expressed concerns that the bill's chances have dropped by half since the decision was made to push back its vote. Tillis has been one of the key players in negotiations over the ethics provision, which is seen as a major obstacle in passing the Clarity Act.
