Crypto Scam Victims Must Navigate Local Reporting Processes

Share

Crypto scams are becoming increasingly global, and victims often encounter the same fake exchanges, wallet drainers, investment schemes, or impersonation accounts regardless of their location.

However, the reporting process still depends on national law-enforcement systems, which can vary by country. A victim in London, Singapore, Sydney, Mumbai, or New York may need to follow a different procedure for filing a report.

The first step is usually to prevent further loss and preserve blockchain evidence. This includes notifying any exchange or wallet provider that may still be able to act, creating an official report with the appropriate authority, and securing remaining funds before filing reports.

For instance, if an attacker controls an account or wallet, victims should contain the damage by resetting passwords, reviewing active sessions, refreshing two-factor authentication, and contacting exchanges through verified support channels. Self-custody wallets require a different response depending on what was compromised.
