Crypto Sector Narratives: RWA Leads Adoption, DeFi Dominates Revenue
RWA (Real-World Assets) has emerged as the strongest growth narrative in the crypto space, according to recent data. With $38.76 billion of distributed asset value and 3.3 million holders on September 3rd, RWA is leading the institutional adoption race.
However, DeFi (Decentralized Finance) still dominates when it comes to liquidity and revenue, with a total value locked of $88.02 billion and a stablecoin supply of $305.19 billion. Despite slightly negative sector returns, DeFi processes the most capital and fees in the market.
DePIN (Decentralized Peripherals) has also shown impressive performance, with a 25.89% year-to-date gain and a 30.58% one-month increase in its market cap index. This is largely due to physical adoption, with DePINscan's verified-project map counting 8.17 million devices across 199 countries or regions.
On the other hand, ReFi (Regenerative Finance) remains the laggard, with a token category valued at only $64.3 million and daily volume of about $766,000. The sector is also struggling to show broad growth, with voluntary carbon-credit retirements reaching 89.27 million in the first half of 2026, down 9% year over year.
