The cryptocurrency industry experienced a significant spike in security breaches in August, with 50 incidents reported, a 67% increase from the previous month.

However, the estimated losses from these attacks fell by nearly half to $136.3 million, down from $270 million in July, due to one large exploit on the Cronos-based lending protocol TectonicFi, which accounted for more than half of all losses at $74 million.

Excluding TectonicFi, the remaining 49 incidents resulted in combined losses of approximately $62.3 million, highlighting how a single high-value target can distort monthly security statistics.
