Crypto Security Crisis Deepens Amid $3.63 Billion in Losses
The crypto industry is facing a massive security crisis, despite having audited protocols in place. According to CoinGecko's report '2026's State of Crypto Security', between January 2025 and July 2026, there were 245 documented security incidents resulting in $3.63 billion in losses.
The largest 10 attacks accounted for more than 72.5% of all stolen funds, with DEXs and dApps facing greater exposure to smart-contract exploits, losing around $546 million through such attacks.
However, the report notes that threats are increasingly extending beyond core code, with over $1.8 billion lost to infrastructure and supply-chain vulnerabilities, including weaknesses in third-party services, integrations, and updates.
