Crypto Sentiment Shifts to Greed as Traders' Bets on Falling Prices Backfire
Crypto traders have shifted from fear to greed in a remarkably short period, according to the Crypto Fear and Greed Index. On August 20, the index jumped to 62, a 16-point increase from the previous day's reading of 46, firmly placing it in the 'Greed' category.
This sudden change comes after Bitcoin surged past $72,000, with the price briefly reaching $72,868. The rally started below $65,000 on August 19 and was accompanied by similar price increases for Ethereum and other major altcoins.
The rapid shift in market sentiment is largely attributed to traders who bet on falling prices losing about $1.44 billion during the previous day's rally. Bitcoin accounted for $861.06 million of these losses, while Ethereum contributed another $424.21 million.
