Crypto-Skeptic Lawmaker Tlaib Holds Bitcoin and Ethereum Investments
Representative Rashida Tlaib, a member of the left-wing 'squad', has been vocal about her opposition to cryptocurrency legislation in Congress. However, her latest financial disclosure reveals that she holds significant investments in Bitcoin and Ethereum through her retirement account at Charles Schwab.
The Michigan Democrat's Charles Schwab retirement account includes up to $15,000 in the Grayscale Ethereum Staking Mini ETF and another $15,000 in an iShares Bitcoin ETF. These investments are part of a broader portfolio that totals over $1.2 million and includes 41 separate holdings.
Tlaib has voted against major crypto legislation, including the CLARITY Act, which would bring digital currencies under commodities regulations. The Senate is set to vote on this bill in September, but Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Michael Selig says his agency is ready to 'codify' a regulated market structure for crypto using existing authorities.
