Crypto Spot Volume Jumps 19% to Record $510 Billion in August
Crypto spot volume experienced its biggest monthly gain of 2026 in August, jumping 19% to $510.4 billion. This marked a significant rebound from July's trough of $429 billion, which was the weakest month of the year.
The increase outpaced derivatives volume growth, which rose 15.9%. Derivatives volume reached $3.51 trillion after falling below $3.1 trillion in the previous month.
Binance led both markets, posting $243.1 billion in spot volume and $1.67 trillion in futures. Its spot share reached 47.6%, up from 43.9% in January. The three largest venues handled 64.8% of spot volume and 74.7% of derivatives volume in August.
The recovery came alongside a sharp price rally, with Bitcoin (BTC) gaining about 25% in August, its strongest monthly performance since November 2024. US-listed Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attracted $3.52 billion in net inflows during the month.
