Crypto Stocks Slide Amid Fed Rate Hike Fears and Strong Inflation
The crypto stocks market is experiencing a downturn as major players like Coinbase (COIN), Bitmine (BMNR), and Circle (CRCL) slide in value. The decline comes amid concerns about potential Fed rate hikes, with the current inflation remaining stronger than anticipated by Fed officials. According to recent remarks from Kevin Warsh, if inflationary pressure continues at its current pace, the Fed may turn hawkish with its rate hike plans.
Fed Governor Michael Barr echoed a similar sentiment, stating that the current inflation is indeed stronger-than-anticipated. He suggested that the Fed might favor steady interest rates but could consider a possible rate hike ahead if inflation fails to cool down. This has led to increased odds of a likely Fed rate hike in September, now sitting at around 67% according to the CME FedWatch Tool.
The crypto stocks market is closely watching these developments, with investors adopting a cautious stance. Coinbase (COIN) stock fell around 4% today and traded at $180.75, while Bitmine (BMNR) stock dropped by about 5%. Circle (CRCL) stock also declined more than 5%, trading at $90.65.
