Crypto Stocks Surge as Investors Flee AI Infrastructure
Crypto stocks saw significant gains on Monday as investors rotated away from AI infrastructure and chip names. The sector-wide move came amid a sharp sell-off in oil prices, lower Treasury yields, and continued risk-off approach to memory chip stocks and other direct AI plays.
The weakness partly reflects concern around capex requirements and whether companies may need to raise incremental capital at higher costs to fund their development pipelines, according to Donovan. Chip and AI infrastructure stocks were under pressure as concern over circular financing spread, along with intensifying competition from Chinese semiconductor companies.
Crypto names like Bitmine Immersion, Sharplink Gaming, Strategy, Coinbase Global, BitGo, Figure Technology, and Circle Internet Group all saw gains of between 2% and 11%. The sector-wide move was attributed to the rotation of capital away from chip and AI infrastructure names.
