Crypto Suffers $3.63 Billion in Security Incidents Since 2025
Crypto platforms have suffered significant losses due to security incidents between January 2025 and July 2026, according to CoinGecko. The total amount lost is a staggering $3.63 billion, with 245 attacks documented during this period.
The 10 largest incidents accounted for more than 72.5% of the total losses, highlighting that a small number of major breaches have driven most of the damage. Infrastructure and supply-chain vulnerabilities were the main sources of harm across both centralized exchanges (CEXes) and decentralized exchanges (DEXes), resulting in combined losses exceeding $1.8 billion.
The report found that even platforms with independent audits did not escape security failures. In fact, 147 attacks involved protocols that had undergone audits before being compromised. These audited platforms accounted for over 88% of the total capital drained during this period.
