Crypto Takes Over College Athletics with Uniform Logos and Stadium Deals
A recent wave of cryptocurrency deals has swept through college athletics, with Kansas Athletics and Texas Tech announcing agreements that blur the lines between traditional sponsorships and non-fungible token (NFT) opportunities.
Kansas became the first major college program to feature a cryptocurrency logo on its uniforms when it partnered with Ripple in July. The deal allows the company's XRP logo to appear on all of Kansas' teams, marking a significant milestone for crypto adoption in sports.
Texas Tech took a different approach, announcing a 15-year naming rights agreement with Galaxy, a digital assets and infrastructure company. As part of the deal, Texas Tech athletes will receive NIL opportunities, although specific details have not been disclosed.
The agreements are often referred to as 'crypto NIL deals,' combining traditional sponsorship models with non-fungible token (NFT) opportunities for student-athletes.
