Crypto Taxable Activity Tops $457 Billion Globally in 2025, Chainalysis Report Shows
Chainalysis has released a report estimating that at least $457 billion in potentially taxable on-chain crypto activity took place globally in 2025. This figure represents a lower-bound estimate, as it only accounts for activity observed across six major blockchains and does not include all centralized platform activity.
The United States accounted for the largest country-level estimate at approximately $112.6 billion of potentially taxable activity in 2025, divided into income, gains, and payments. India followed with about $19 billion, including $10.7 billion in payments, $5.1 billion in gains, and $3.2 billion in income.
Chainalysis notes that the tax treatment of these activities varies by jurisdiction, and a transaction that creates a tax obligation in one country may receive different treatment elsewhere.
