Crypto Token Delisting: What Happens When an Exchange Removes a Token
Delisting in crypto is when an exchange removes a token from its trading platform. It doesn't mean the token stops existing; it's still on its native blockchain, and you can move it to another wallet or exchange if needed.
The reasons for delisting vary by exchange but often include low trading volume, security concerns, regulatory pressure, project abandonment, or team red flags.
Exchanges typically follow a four-stage process: announcement, trading halt, withdrawal window, and deadline/liquidation. The key date is the withdrawal window, which can range from weeks to 90 days.
If you miss the withdrawal window, some exchanges may force-convert your balance into another asset at their price. However, tokens often keep trading on decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and the price impact of a delisting notice is usually due to panic selling.
