Crypto Trading Slump Claims BitMEX as First Major Casualty

Share

BitMEX, a prominent cryptocurrency trading platform, has announced its permanent shutdown in September. The company's demise is seen as a potential harbinger of more closures to come in the industry.

At least three other crypto firms have recently announced closures or bankruptcies, including BitMart, which will give users 30 days to close trades and six months to withdraw their funds. Users are concerned about withdrawal delays following the announcement.

Analysts attribute these shutdowns to a decline in retail trading volume and the need for exchanges to adapt to new regulatory requirements. Jason Fernandes, co-founder of AdLunam, believes that retail interest has dropped significantly and that only platforms with institutional compliance and clear proof of reserves can survive.
