Crypto Trading Volumes Plummet 50% Amid Year-End Holiday Lull
Crypto markets are experiencing their quietest stretch since December 2024 as trading volumes for major assets plummeted during the year-end holiday lull.
Data from Santiment revealed that Bitcoin and altcoins saw a significant decline in trading activity, with Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin recording less than half of their weekly trading volumes compared to late 2024.
The analytics firm attributed the drop to flat price movement and year-end holidays pulling traders away from markets. Santiment also stated that this decline reflects weaker short-term interest rather than panic selling.
Bitcoin's social dominance has dropped to low single-digit territory, with Oro Crypto noting that major cycle peaks typically coincide with heavy retail participation that remains absent.
