Crypto Trading Volumes Plummet by Half in Year-End Holiday Lull
Cryptocurrency trading volumes have plummeted by half during the year-end holiday lull, marking the quietest stretch for digital asset markets since December 2024. According to data from Santiment released on Dec. 30, Bitcoin and altcoin trading activity fell steadily through the final weeks of 2025.
The decline in volumes is attributed to flat price movement and year-end holidays pulling traders away from markets. Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin are now recording less than half their weekly trading volumes compared to late 2024.
Santiment noted that the drop reflects weaker short-term interest rather than panic selling. Social media discussions about Bitcoin have also fallen since mid-November, with Oro Crypto pointing out that major cycle peaks typically coincide with heavy retail participation that remains absent.
