Crypto Trading Volumes Plummet to Three-Year Low Amid Macro Uncertainty
Cryptocurrency trading volumes have hit a three-year low, according to data from K33 analysts. In July 2026, spot trading activity in the market may drop to its lowest level since November 2023.
The average daily spot trading volume over the past 30 days was $2.2 billion, while open interest on the CME remained near multi-year lows at around 300,000 BTC. The analysts linked the weak volumes to pressure on crypto exchanges' revenues, citing BitMEX as an example.
BitMEX announced its closure and will cease operations entirely by September 23, imposing risk limits starting August 26 that allow users only to reduce positions. All remaining open positions will be forcibly closed by the time trading stops.
