Crypto Unlocks Global Financial Access, Says Coinbase CEO
Crypto is often viewed as a speculative asset, but its potential to expand financial access globally cannot be overstated, according to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong. In a post on X, he highlighted how cryptocurrency has helped break down traditional financial barriers by giving more people access to digital payments, global markets, and financial services.
According to Armstrong, stablecoins have effectively brought the U.S. dollar onto blockchain networks, allowing people to hold a dollar-pegged digital asset and send money globally around the clock at potentially lower costs than traditional payment systems. This has opened up new pathways for individuals without conventional banking relationships to gain exposure to global markets.
Decentralized finance (DeFi) is another area where crypto is expanding access to financial services, particularly credit. DeFi protocols enable lending and borrowing without relying on traditional financial institutions or credit scores, allowing more people to participate in the financial system.
