Crypto Wallets Fold: Five Shutdowns Highlight Industry Challenges

Share

At least five crypto wallets have shut down in 2026, each for different reasons. The most surprising is HaHa Wallet, which reached over 2.5 million signups and peaked at 90,000 daily active users before its shutdown due to a failure to scale into a sustainable business.

Spell Wallet also shut down, citing unstable market conditions, lack of significant farming opportunities, and inability to keep delivering sustainable rewards to users. The team extended the closing deadline from May 1 to August 1 after community pushback, but ultimately closed due to an unsustainable business model.

The Ctrl Wallet shutdown was a result of a security breach tied to its integration with SecondFi. The team disabled transfers and swaps after the incident and pulled the app from stores without offering a clear public explanation or migration tokens.
